As part of HCC’s commitment to assisting students and graduates set to enter the workforce, HCC Central held a Consumer Arts & Sciences “Arts Mania” Career Fair at Central Campus. Each Spring, the event is held so students gain practical, firsthand skills that lead directly to employment without necessarily requiring a four-year degree.

HCC's Alumni Association hosted a Spring networking social on April 1. Over 200 people attended, including recent graduates and alumni from previous years, celebrating connections and achievements at the West Houston Institute, said James Mable, HCC director of Alumni Affairs and Career and Transfer Services.

For most of her life, Houston native Dominique Davis relied on used cars to get around. After a brief experience with a car loan that didn’t pan out, she found herself once again navigating the world of secondhand vehicles — and often unreliable mechanics. That frustration sparked a bold decision: to take matters into her own hands. That decision led her to enroll in the HCC automotive technology program.

A community college education is the best starting point for today’s high school graduates, according to many who have attended and acquired a high-quality higher education with little or no student debt. For students living within the HCC district, choosing to attend HCC was the best option for beginning their higher education journey.

Despite early success in her academic journey, Maia Kemp felt something was missing in her life. As a homeschool student she took classes through Houston Community College’s dual credit program and following graduation, she attended University of New Orleans where she maintained a 4.0 grade point average. Yet, still, something was missing, and she dropped out of college.
