HCC offering course to open doors for those seeking patents

Nov 17, 2023

Houston Community College (HCC) is offering a free course to empower historically underrepresented inventors with the knowledge they may need to overcome challenges faced when applying for patents.

The Inventor's Patent Academy will be led by Carlyn Burton, J.D., a patent attorney with Osha, Bergman, Watanabe and Burton LLP of Houston.

“We are seeking to level the playing field to ensure that everyone has an equal opportunity to protect his or her intellectual property and be compensated for ideas,” Burton said.

Participants will hear from legal and industry experts as well as inventors from historically underrepresented groups. A certificate will be awarded to those who complete the course.

The course will be virtual on Zoom on Nov. 27, Dec. 4 and Dec. 11. Each session runs from noon to 2 p.m.
