HCC Board announces sole finalist for Interim Chancellor

In a special meeting held on June 20, 2023, the Houston Community College (HCC) Board of Trustees announced the selection of Margaret Ford Fisher, Ed.D., as the sole finalist for the Interim Chancellor position, effective September 1.

The Board will take final action to appoint the Interim Chancellor at a subsequent meeting, as required by state law. This meeting will take place at least 21 days from the Board’s announcement.

Dr. Ford Fisher is the inaugural president of Houston Community College Online, the seventh HCC college established in February 2018. HCC Online College was recognized by Newsweek as “One of America’s Best Online Colleges" in 2022 and 2023.

As the president of Online College, Dr. Ford Fisher led her team to establish more than 60 fully online degree programs and more than 70 hybrid programs with an annual enrollment that has exceeded 62,000 students. Prior to the Online College presidency, she served as president of HCC Northeast College for 20 years.

Dr. Ford Fisher received both her Bachelor of Arts degree in English and master’s degree in the Teaching of English at Wichita State University. She also received her Doctor of Education in Curriculum and Instruction from the University of Houston.

Regarding the selection process, Board Chair Dr. Cynthia Lenton-Gary said, “The candidates were of high caliber requiring the Board’s careful review and consideration.” She thanked the Board for its demonstrated commitment throughout the expedited yet thorough search process.
