Andrik Borja is a natural leader and is currently the Nuclear Medicine Technology Student Association president. Before becoming the president, Andrik would organize student study sessions during open labs and after class. His actions resulted in the retention of many of his classmates. Why did you enroll at HCC Coleman College?
I enrolled at HCC Coleman College because it is the only Nuclear Medicine Technician program offered in the greater Houston area, and it's located in the Texas Medical Center, which is a big plus!
Why did you choose your program of study?
In my research, I discovered PET/CT imaging. I was fascinated by the acquisition of the images, so I went in deeper and learned that in order to work in that modality you need a Nucelar Medicine Technology license.
What do you like best about your program of study?
I like how small we are compared to other programs; it really cultivates a family atmosphere. Our program director on Day One mentioned that we were going to become a close family because these are the people we will be seeing almost daily for the next two years. It’s something that really does resonate with me because I truly would not be here in the last year of the program without the help and support of my classmates, so a shout out to them!
When you are tired, what motivates you to push forward?
I think of my dad. He works as a brickmason in construction. He gets home with a smile on his face and radiates positive energy that I simply don’t know where he gets. He’s easily one of the hardest-working people that I know in my life. I just want to be able to provide for him as he’s been able to provide for me.
What advice can you offer to help other students succeed?
Closed mouths don’t get fed. If you need help, please speak up and use the resources available to you. I think a lot of us are used to getting by independently, but at the NMT program you will need to work together because the amount of new information that you as a student learn will be a a LOT!
Any final thoughts?
Anything worth having is not easily attainable, so put in the work and the fruits of your labor shall be the most fulfilling!
