Dr. Pretta VanDible Stallworth is the District IX Trustee for the Houston City College Board, elected in December 2017. She is the first African American to receive a Rice University engineering graduate degree in 1984. She is a 2024 REA Outstanding Engineering Alumni Award honoree. Dr. VanDible Stallworth serves on the Association of Rice Alumni Board and the Rice University Engineering Alumni Board. She also served on the board of the Association of Rice University Black Alumni. She is a 2023 Top 30 Influential Women of Houston Honoree. Trustee VanDible Stallworth holds a Bachelor of Science and Master in Chemical Engineering from Rice University, Bachelor of Science in Chemistry from Texas Southern University, an MBA, and a PhD in Christian Education. She is a Project Management Professional certified by the Project Management Institute International and holds a Minority Business Certification from Dartmouth College Tuck School of Business.
Dr. VanDible Stallworth is an Association of Community College Trustees Board of Directors executive committee member. She has served as Vice Chair and Secretary/Treasurer of the organization. She was Chair of Finance and Audit, Member Communications & Education, and State Coordinators committees. She also served on the Governance and Bylaws committee. ACCT fosters the realization of community college missions at the international, national, state and local levels. She also served on the Legislative Committee, Commission on Community College Finance and Engagement Committee of the Community College Association of Texas Trustees.
Dr. VanDible Stallworth is a 2024 9th TiE Unicon Global Summit speaker. She is a TED.com Organizer, promoting the Sunnyside Houston community for global TED Talk Speaker events. “TED: Ideas Worth Spreading” is an international nonpartisan nonprofit devoted to spreading ideas in Technology, Entertainment and Design. Dr. VanDible Stallworth has received community service honors and recognitions from the U.S. TX-09 and TX-18 Congressional Districts, State of Texas Senate District 13 and City of Houston. She has also received awards from the Caribbean Chamber of Commerce, Top Ladies of Distinction, Southeast Coalition of Civic Clubs, Tidelands Labor Assembly, Breakfree Release Ministries, Six Figure Chics, Tuesday Night Live Outreach, I Care Foundation and Essence of a Lady.
Dr. VanDible Stallworth was a rocket scientist in computer programming for solid rocket booster research at Edwards Air Force Base. As a project consultant she provided support to Dr. Charleta Guillory for the Texas Pulse Oximetry Project Model (TxPOP) and Honey Child Prenatal Education Program medical intervention models. TxPOP is the award-winning national screening model for the early detection of Critical Congenital Heart Defect (CCHD) in apparently healthy newborns. The Honey Child Prenatal Education Program model provided African-American women with culturally appropriate information and support needed for healthy pregnancy and birth outcomes.
Trustee VanDible Stallworth volunteers for TPT Community Development Corporation, community organizations and K-12 education. She is a founding member of the Texas Multicultural Advocacy Coalition and member of Top Ladies of Distinction Sugar Valley Chapter. She served as the Sam Houston Area Council Boy Scouts of America Troop 740 Parent, Merit Badge Counselor and Friends of Scouting Coordinator. She was an active HISD VIPS parent for over 20 years and served as President of Parents for Public Schools of Houston, High School for the Performing and Visual Arts Chair for Parents of Black History, PTO President of Johnston Middle School (now Meyerland Performing and Visual Arts) and PTO Historian of Parker Elementary School. She was the 2010 President of the Ft. Bend County International Festival. She served as a Medgar Evers Academy for African American Males (A-TEAAM) Ambassador. Dr. VanDible Stallworth served as Chaplain for Senate District 13, Precinct 555 Chair and Election Judge. She also served on her community HOA Board.
Dr. VanDible Stallworth was an adjunct professor for over 35 years and has taught 16 courses at the university, two-year college, business and corporate training levels. She was a corporate trainer, curriculum designer and online course developer. Dr. VanDible Stallworth designed and developed the revolutionary emotional abuse awareness curriculums utilized in family law courts, K-12 education, and professional counseling. As a business-to-business consultant Dr. VanDible Stallworth provided project management, commercial construction cost estimation and support, business development and operations. Dr. VanDible Stallworth was owner and manager of Computer & Technology Support Services (CTS) for over 16 years. The Mississippi-based small business concern held contracts with Department of Defense military divisions and the Army Corps of Engineers Katrina Effort.
Trustee VanDible Stallworth is a HISD graduate of Reynolds Elementary, Woodson Middle and Worthing High all District IX schools. She focuses on serving, promoting and advancing District 9 and HCC through the national core values of diversity, advocacy, innovation and student success. Her accomplishments include work that raises awareness of programs, increases student enrollment, engages elders and communities and promotes business partnerships. Dr. VanDible Stallworth established the HCC Dorothy Thomas and John Janatsch scholarships. She envisioned “Mind Your ABCs—Athletes Bound for Colleges and Adults Bound for Careers.” As a community organizer, she hosted the Men’s Room Health Forum, the Health Wellness Backpack Drive and the 80+yrs Teacher Awards. In addition, she organized a nonprofit collaborative with Urban STEM, Mommy and Me the Listers and Bridging the Digital Divide organizations to engage families in STEM education.
Trustee VanDible Stallworth was the first HCC District IX Board member from 1989-1993. During the five-year tenure, the appointed board transitioned the community college from a President-directed, shared-facilities entity with Houston Independent School District to an independent Chancellor leadership system with six colleges. Notable board governance accomplishments included: increased college revenue from $75,000,000 to $150,000,000; raised college reserves from $5,000,000 to $30,000,000; purchased land for a campus on Hwy 288; developed the first distance learning college in Texas; began the first high school and college dual enrollment courses.

Welcome to a new academic year at Houston Community College. As your District IX Trustee, I am humbled to announce that I am a Rice University 2024 Outstanding Engineering Alumni Honoree. This award was first presented in 1974 with George R. Brown as the initial recipient. It honors Rice engineering alumni for outstanding professional achievement and service to society. I am deeply grateful to the Rice School of Engineering and the Rice Engineering Alumni Board for this most prestigious award.
