    Houston Community College is partnering with UnidosUS, a Washington, D.C.-based Latino civil rights and advocacy organization, to launch a program to help Latino students to navigate college and excel in post-secondary education. The Avanzando Through College program kicked off this fall as a 10-week course covering a range of topics to help students stay on track academically.

    Music filled the air at the 2022 F2F Music Summer Camp, which drew 21 Houston-area students to the HCC Stafford Fine Arts building for an immersive musical experience. Now in its third year, the summer camp was the result of a partnership this year between Houston Community College Southwest and the F2F Music Foundation, a nonprofit educational performing arts group founded by jazz recording artist Vel Lewis.

    Houston Community College has launched a training program to prepare students for work as 911 emergency dispatchers. The new eight-week public safety certification program for telecommunicators provides the critical skills and knowledge needed for such professionals to answer emergency calls and dispatch fire, police, or emergency medical services units.

    About 40 Empowerment High School students have taken flight as Houston Community College Eagles with the start of their new, dual-credit journey. To kick off the first cohort of 39 freshmen and sophomores in the high school’s Early College Academy, students took part in an Academic Signing Day on Sept. 2 where they committed to earning associate of arts degrees from HCC while also getting their high school diplomas.
