Geographic Information Science

Houston Community College offers students an associate degree program and several certificate options in the field of Geographic Information Science (GIS). The new GIS “Marketable Skills Award” (MSA) is a three (3) course program designed to rapidly introduce professionals from other disciplines to the fundamental skills needed to incorporate GIS into their workplace environments. The higher level certificate programs and AAS degree provide more in depth skills related to performing advanced desktop analysis, working with internet/network based GIS solutions, and customizing GIS software applications.

HCCS GIS program graduates are well represented in private and public sector firms throughout the metro region. Because of these strong industry relationships, a variety practical co-op work programs are available to our students.
