Additional services

Academic Advising
Counselors and student services associates assist students with their educational decision-making process by advising them about course placement and transferability, evaluating transcripts, identifying educational objectives, and assisting with the college registration process. Additionally, counselors and student services associates clarify institutional policies, procedures and requirements as outlined in the student handbook and catalog. They serve as liaisons between students and other college personnel.

Degree plan counselors assist students in developing degree plans, which serve as a roadmap for students' success. Students who complete degree plans at the end of the first semester or as soon as possible are more likely to achieve their educational goals within the expected time for a certificate or a degree.

Personal Counseling/Life Skills Seminars
As students go through the semester, they may find it necessary to discuss personal issues with the counselors. At this time, we invite you to come and talk with any of our counselors. You can also request or register for workshops on topics such as study skills, test anxiety, stress management.

Career Counseling
Students who are unsure or undecided about a possible career or those at a crossroad in their life can access the career counseling services that are offered regularly at HCC. Students can take self assessments such as the Type Focus, Self-Directed Search, Myers-Briggs or Strong Interest Inventory.

The Early Alert Program
The Early Alert Program is designed to identify students who are struggling academically within the first four weeks of the semester. Faculty members notify the counselors, who make personal contact with the students. The counselors work closely with faculty and students to provide services to improve students' performance and success in reaching their educational goals.
