How to get a Degree Plan

During your first semester at HCC, meet with a counselor to initiate or update your degree plan. A degree plan shows is your educational roadmap. The courses required for a particular degree or certificate are outlined and will guide your progress, including transfer work applied to your degree and any course substitutions and approvals. Official transcripts must be on file in order for transfer work to be evaluated. Consider whether or not you are seeking a transfer degree (Associate in Arts-AA, Associate of Arts in Teaching-AAT, or Associate in Science-AS) or a Workforce degree (Associate in Applied Science-AAS.) If you are not sure which type of degree you want to pursue, please refer to the College and Career Planner web page for guidance:

The Associate in Arts and Associate in Science academic core courses are guaranteed to transfer and count toward the core curriculum at all Texas public higher education institutions. After you transfer to a four-year university, you may concentrate in a major area of study during your junior and senior years.

* Associate in Arts:
Primarily for students planning on transferring to a senior college or university to receive a baccalaureate degree in the following areas:
        - Communication
        - Business
        - Social Sciences

* Associate in Science:
Primarily for students planning on transferring to a senior college or university to receive a baccalaureate degree in the following areas:
        - Computer Science
        - Engineering
        - Health and Natural Sciences

HCC, in conjunction with a number of four-year institutions, has developed specialized transfer plans for specific majors. Students should obtain appropriate transfer plans from a counselor.
