How do I get Tested
Testing Requirements to Attend HCC
The State of Texas and Houston Community College requires that all students must test to determine their readiness to enroll in college level and or developmental education courses.
If a student has not previously taken an approved Texas State Initiative (TSI) test or any other required placement test and is not exempt or waived from testing requirements, then they must test prior to enrollment.
Students at HCC SW must go to the Counseling Department to obtain a Testing Authorization Form before they will be allowed to test. The initial test will cost students $25.00.
Test results determine whether the student has met program requirements and course pre-requisites. Test scores are used to establish coursework students may take. Students who do not test at a college level will be placed into developmental (preparatory) coursework.
Students transferring from another institution(s) must provide official transcripts or other documentation indicating test scores and course work previously taken prior to enrollment. HCC staff will then evaluate the documents.
