Developmental Studies

The primary objective of the Developmental Studies department is to provide quality instruction in the areas of reading and basic English composition to HCCS students residing in or near the Southwest Houston area. Developmental studies (DEVENGL/AESL/GUST) offer an array of courses for both native and non-native speakers of English. Although the department provides instruction to students with a wide variety of needs, its primary focus is on helping students develop the literacy and communication skills needed to succeed in an academic environment.
