By Blondel Walters | Jun 2, 2014
Ximena G. Magana “Gaby” is a spirited, ambitious student at the West Loop campus, with aspirations of becoming a member of the United States Congress.
She attends HCC Southwest, using it as a spring board to achieve her career goal.
“I have completed my first year in political science,” Magana said. “After earning my associate degree, I want to transfer to the University of Houston, and continue on to law school at the University of Texas.”
With a law degree, Magana will pursue a career as a Judge Advocate General (JAG) officer in the military, where she can use her education to provide legal counsel to military staff and their families. She is no stranger to the military. Magana has experience as a Battalion Commander in the Junior Reserve Officers’ Training Corps (JROTC), in Bellaire High School’s Cardinal Battalion. Currently, she is a cadet in the University of Houston’s Cougar Battalion and a work-study student in the HCC Southwest public relation department.
After retiring as a JAG, she plans to run for political office.
Magana and her mother migrated to the United States from Mexico, in search of a better future. They found itin the Houston area, and they hope Gaby will one day represent this diverse community in Congress.
